Knowing the concerns of your patients is a critical element in building and maintaining your practice. Increased competition and higher levels of patient awareness are placing a greater pressure on all phases of dentistry for doctors to strategically adjust their professional services.
  • Do you know your patients opinions about your practice?
  • How do you assess your patients' opinions about your staff?
  • Your fees?
  • Your practice management?
  • About you as a professional?
Patient Opinion Survey is a proven process for obtaining accurate and specific feedback about the concerns of your patients. Our experience in working with all phases of dentistry and surveying patient opinions for more than twenty-five years, indicates there are almost forty patient opinion topics important to monitor. Our Patient Opinion Survey provides planning information with the following benefits:

Ease of Survey: You simply send the announcement letter in Step 2 and provide us with patient names using our simple and specific guidelines.

Accurate and Detailed Feedback: Our survey report provides both quantitative and qualitative feedback. It includes comparative data, and patients' written comments. In addition, you will receive a written analysis of your entire survey. This will clarify the meaning of the survey results and assist you with action planning.

The Four Major Areas Surveyed are:
  • Doctor Professional/Technical
  • Doctor Personal
  • Staff
  • Practice Management
(Surveys will be tailored for multiple doctor practices and all speciality practices.)

Patients respond by agreeing or disagreeing to statements using the following opinion measurement scale.

Disagree No Opinion Agree
(-3)    (-2)    (-1) ( 0 ) (+1)    (+2)    (+3)

Sample Questionnaire Statements:
  • My dentist's receptionist always greets me in a friendly manner.
  • I am always well informed about my dentist's fees.
  • When I have the opportunity, I recommend my dentist to others.
  • If I have pain my dentist does not show concern.
To participate in this Opportunity, simply:
  1. Randomly select the names and addresses of a total of one hundred adult patients, you have seen in the last six months. "Random Selection" can be done by selecting the first "A, the second "B", the third "C", etc. from your alphabetized patient records until you have 100 names. Surveys are tailored for all dental specialties. The orthodontic survey includes three populations, adolescent patients, adult patients and parents of adolescent patients.
  2. Send the following message (reworded if you like) to those selected, using your letterhead.
    Dear Patient:
We are striving to provide the best quality of care for our patients. To continue to do this, we need your help and input in evaluating our services to you.

We have asked O.A. Bud Ham Consulting of Aurora, Colorado to help us also. In a few days you will receive a questionnaire from them along with a stamped return envelope. The survey is totally anonymous, and it can be completed in a very few minutes.

This is not a general survey, rather it has been sent to only a random selection of patients--therefore your response is very important.

    Thank you for your help.

           Sincerely,

                        D.D.S.
  3. When you have mailed the above letter, immediately send the selected names and addresses typed on gummed labels to our office. The survey requires approximately seven weeks. You will then receive the survey results to help you more accurately direct your efforts toward building and maintaining an excellence oriented practice.

As expressed below, it is apparent to us that patients view this survey as their dentist's concern about them and their practices. Also they are strongly indicating an appreciation for the opportunity to express their opinions.

    • "Is he conducting this survey so he can best meet his patients' needs and continue to grow? “I'm not surprised."

    • “My family and I are pleased that our dentist cares enough to have this type of survey done."

    • "I am glad to see that Dr......is concerned enough to survey professionalism and a desire to maintain high quality of care."
